When it first comes from the faucet, it tastes fine but smells like metal or rust, but then after leaving it out for a while, it tastes metallic. Would getting a faucet or water pitcher filter give me safe drinking water? Should I start buying bottled water instead of a filter?

The hot and cold are reversed and connect directly into my kitchen faucet, so I would like to cut the pipes and add some flexible supply line (and maybe shutoff valves).

My question is, how do I cut and attach the flexible lines to the PVC pipe? I’m assuming I just use a hacksaw to cut the pipe, but how do I add the shutoff valve/flexible line? Is there some sort of compression fitting that I can buy and attach to the cut PVC that will add a threaded connection so I can screw the valve and line onto it?

Usually, I turn on the hot water on the kitchen sink and it starts out flowing fine, but within a minute or two the pressure suddenly drops and the sink starts to shake a little, accompanied by a low noise. The cold water does not do this, but I have noticed the cold water pressure in this sink varies considerably, sometimes great, sometimes more like a heavy trickle. The hot problem started happening several months ago, and we’ve owned the home 2 years. Were told all the plumbing was replaced right before we bought it. The kitchen sink is the closest faucet to the hot water heater (gas), so distance is not an issue. If I turn the hot off for a few minutes and turn it back on the pressure come back, but then returns to the trickle with the shaking. Sometimes I can get a longer period of hot without the problem if I only turn the faucet on half-way.

There is a knob on the actual faucet in the middle that diverts water to the shower head, which is also attached to the faucet by a hose. (This is an OLD house) The water has stopped diverting. The faucet still works, but not the shower. I have cleaned the shower head and hose out, so I know that’s not it. This is getting real old real fast. I just bought this place, and don’t have the money to hire a plumber, so I really need to do this myself.

The handles are not separate from the faucet part (they are on the same base), and the base is the same size as the one on there now, but I don’t know if it will fit the same! Please help, the plumber is coming tomorrow!

It is a 2-bedroom 1 1/2 bath in need up much cosmetic repair. It currently has old carpet over hardwood floors in family room and beedrooms. Badly stained kitchen carpet and vinyl flooring in bathrooms. Ugly wall paper, out-dated bath rooms, old kitchen cabinets. Water pressure is slow in all faucets. Home is in need of paint inside and out, has some ceiling damage, old windows (some cracked), some damaged and rotted window sills and siding, probably 30-year old furnace and perhaps not quite as old A/C, but both work.

I obviously can’t fix everything for ,000 but what do you think would make the most difference? If you have other improvement ideas of your own, let me know them too!

I thought all I needed was for the pilot light to be relit to our hot water heater but I was told by the PSEG technician that I had to have my hot water heater replaced since it was damaged in the flood. That’s fine, I’ll deal and buy a new hot water heater.

Oddly enough, I was running the hot water in the shower and felt the water get warm. I let it run for a few minutes and the water was still warm. Not just lukewarm, but warm-warm! So for the past few days, I’ve been taking warm showers and have just ignored the fact that we have to get our hot water heater replaced.

How could it be possible for warm water to be coming out of the faucets when the gas is switched to OFF on the hot water heater? Our furnace which is right next to it is running. Is that what’s making the water warm? I didn’t think those 2 were related! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Important Note: the PSEG guy told me I had to replace the hot water heater because I have a Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistant (FVIR) water heaters. This model doesn’t allow you to easily access the pilot light. It has a "flame arrestor, typically made of stainless steel, at the base of the heater prevents flammable vapors from igniting outside the heater’s internal combustion chamber. The chamber is sealed so that the arrestor is the only way for combustive air to enter the unit.

Should flammable vapors get through, they burn off harmlessly on the arrestor’s surface."

So I can’t easily go into it and relight the pilot. Thus, the recommendation of the PSE&G guy to replace it.

I spend lots of money buying bottles of water because I can’t drink the water that comes out of my sink because it tastes weird (there’s lots of sodium in it). A Pur or Brita water filter (while good at taking lots of other sediments and stuvff out) still leaves the salt in water and it still tastes weird. So is there anything that specifically takes the salt back out that my water softener puts into my tap water?

They are in great working condition and operate smoothly but I have never been happy with the appearance or feel of the aeration; that is, the water flow itself. I purchased some replacement aerators from home depot for .23 a piece thinking that my original aerators may have become clogged, etc. Even after the switch, though, the aeration still isn’t nice like other faucets I’ve seen. You know in the commercials for Moen when the water flows so perfectly in a flawless aerated cylinder of water? How do you achieve that? We have great water pressure, too. Do I need to buy a higher quality aerator OR a higher quality faucet?

System is oil fired. Whjat is the best way to expand the capacity? Can I get some sort of insulated or secondary heated expansion tank off the boiler?

The unit came with 3 different rubber washers, and I tried each of them, and it still sprays water. This particular water filter screws into the faucet, and the water base sits on the countertop, and is good for a whopping 10,000 gallons which is cool, but I can’t seem to stop the darn water from spraying out where it screws the water diverter into the faucet! I am hoping that someone out there who has had a similar problem knows how to fix it, or is a plumber or understands how to correct this problem. Thanks and I look forward to reading your answers. Now, the only way I can get her to drink is if it is from a running faucet. She actually beats me to the bathroom each morning and jumps up on the counter and starts meowing.

Eight months ago, I moved and with the move bought a cat water fountain. All was well for the first couple of months. Then she discovered where water comes from and will not drink from the fountain and we are back to her old faucet games.

She has gotten to the point now where she will walk over to us, meow, and run into the bathroom. If we don’t follow her, she just repeats until we get up and turn the faucet on for her.

I am not as concerned by the annoying factor as much as I don’t know if she is getting enough water during the day.

Any advice on how to ween her would be great

thanks everyone. To clarify a few things

1) we do have a fountain and she won’t drink from it.

2) she is a Perisan mix and I can’t use full on bowls as she can’t get her little smooshed face in there

3) I don’t have objections to her drinking from the faucet, I would rather have her drink from her own "place"

4) I guess it really is her world and I just live in it

5) comments about kicking her - any any other animal for that matter - just show how civilized some people are

It has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. A living area, dining area breakfast area, kitchen, entryway and finished basement. We wnat to fix it up and flip it over time and make some money. It is a foreclosure in a nice older neighborhood…nothing fancy. But the kitchen is a small corridor style kitchen. We were thinking it would be allright if we found a place to put some built ins in the breakfast room for cook books or something. And used granite counters and stainless steel appliances and real nice cabinets. What do you think?

I disconnected the lines to check the pressure from the lines, it is strong at that point which leads me to think it is the faucet or something getting caught in the faucet and restricting flow, but what, and what can i do. The previous faucet had low flow as well. All of the other faucets in the house have good pressure. I found a few specks of rust in the aerator of both new and old faucets. Is there an internal screen in the faucet itself that i can clean? It is a real pain to wash dishes. Need help ASAP.

I do not want to have something that seeps any chemicals into my food. Is this safe? Should I return it? and if so, what would be the best pan for cooking eggs?

When I went to install the faucet I realized that the shafts for the faucet were too short and I could not both cramp the faucet to the countertop and attach the water supply. I bought some plastic extenders from Home Depot but those kept leaking. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Now I am trying to loosen the nut to remove the faucet and it WON’T BUDGE. I even bought a special wrench to try and get up there, but it’s a tad too small.
