How do you keep granite counters looking new?
My beautiful granite counters are only about four years old. I use the spray granite cleaner from the hardware store but the area around the faucet seems to be changing color some…getting darker…and some areas have a little bit of white …has anyone ever used the granite products that you can buy on-line for about ? The counter was originally "sealed" by the installers…but nothing since…I only use water and the spray granite cleaner on it. Thanks

My granite counter is about 8 years old, and looks nearly new. Mine is dark, though, so it may hide imperfections better. A lot of the granite "polishes" are not polish, which by definition removes some of the surface, like very fine sanding. They are really waxes. So, the guy suggesting car wax is on the right track. However, many car waxes smell fine outside on a car, maybe not so fine in your kitchen. Also, car wax may not be suitable for contact with food. I’d go with the counter wax/polishes — try getting it at a place that sells granite products. Likely better than most supermarket stuff, since they want their clients to be eternally loving their installations.
Don’t use an ordinary kitchen cleaning product to clean granite. The newest technology uses peroxide and detergents to penetrate soiled areas. Simply spray a product such as Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate on the soiled area, allow it to penetrate for a few minutes, then wipe clean. Baking soda can be sprinkled on for a more abrasive cleaning action. Repeat if necessary. Granite can also be cleaned using warm, sudsy water (a mild detergent such as a grease cutting dish detergent or laundry detergent is fine) or a solution of borax and water. Thoroughly rinse and buff dry. To remove stains from granite, make a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide or baking soda and Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate and cover the stain with the paste. Cover the paste with a damp cloth, leave overnight, then wet down and scrub with a nonmetallic scrubbing pad. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Wipe up any spills as they happen so they don’t soak in, and always dry coutertops after washing the dishes…
Stop having sex on the counter.
I think you should just use sopa and water
believe it or NOT… Car wax.
I kid you not.
i wish i knew. i have a spanish tile floor and if you get the answer i’l be very happy because i’m checking back on this question.
Are the faucet rusting? Or leaking?
Try to clean the counter everyday after use if you are not doing that already.
The products available from the stores are normally good but sometimes a simple soap and water do good as well.
You should be able to re-polish the counter after few years.
I’ve heard the best thing to use is windex only.
you should be sealing your granite once a year
