My cat won’t drink from the fountain we bought him, any suggestions?
He hates drinking stagnant water, like many cats, but will only drink from the faucet or bathtub faucet. We bought a fountain for him because he kept waking one of us up three times a night to get water, but he won’t drink out of it. Aside from denying him access to the faucets, which leads him to yowl at the bathroom door, I can’t think of anything else to do. We don’t want him yowling because we’re currently living with my grandparents and my grandfather does not like cats. Plus, he wants water at 12 am or earlier and we don’t want to wake the whole household. Anything you know of that we could do?
Which fountain did you get? There are three main types on the market, Petmate Fresh Flow, Catit and Drinkwell fountain. They all distribute the water differently. Maybe you need to return the fountain you got and try a different brand. The Petmate water flows down a sloap. With the Drinkwell, it comes out much like water from a faucet. And with the Catit, water flows over a bubble and the cats lick it to get their water. I would try a different brand before you give up.
Set the fountain where your cat’s water bowl is normally kept, fill it up, but keep it off. After a few days when your cat is used to it, turn it on.
Worked for my cats, the fountain was a bit of a shock, they had to ease into it slowly.
Try teachings your pet by actually hold him at the gadget/fountain.
Put the fountain by the sink he likes to drink out of. Maybe it is a location thing.
I got a good idea, ever time she yowls take her to the fountain and push her head ( GENTLY ) in the water and if she refuses slpash a little water in her nose and go to bed and ignore the yowlin ( try )
Have you tried to put chicken broth or tuna juice in the water to give it a nice flavor that kitty will like? Of course don’t put this in the fountain you bought as it will probably ruin it.
