Should i wait until my kitchen is re-done to buy my bird?

I will be getting a cockatiel and keeping it in my room. My kitchen is being renevated (redone) and pretty much torn down for 3 weeks. The kitchen is donwstairs and my bedroom is upstairs. Should i wait for the kitchen to be finished before i purchase a bird? Please email me if you need to.

  1. Yes, wait till it gets done, because the fums from the kitchen will end up killing the bird. I have 2 parakeets and these heater repair guys were gluing something into my ceiling and it smelled horrible. So, I took my birds to our small room and covered them up, they stayed in there for about 3 days, till the smell was out. But, don’t, DO NOT, get a bird while they are redoing your kitchen, or you will just have wasted your money on a dead bird.

wait until the kitchen is done

  3. Yes, wait until the dust settles and the contractors stop going in and out.

  4. I think too you should wait, any and all remodeling creates so much dust and chaos in general.

  5. wait. the dust, noise, and commotion could pose a problem for the bird

  6. I’ve only had parakeets, but I would definitely wait until your kitchen is redone. The noise and confusion could probably affect your bird–making him nervous and uncomfortable. Not to mention there may be dust and other things in the environment that birds and small animals are very sensitive to. And remember once you get your new kitchen, if you cook with non-stick cookware (teflon) keep your bird far from it! It can release harmful chemicals when it gets into higher temps that could be fatal to your birdie. Congrats on your new bird and your new kitchen! :)

  7. yes

  8. looks like it came to a vote, wait until the dust settles and the noise is stopped. you will have a happier bird, and maybe a little more time to research the care of the new one. i had four at one time and they are a great deal of fun, i named them after the Flintstones: Fred, Barney, Betty and Wilma. the second wife took them in the divorce settlement… i miss them birds….

  9. Yes, wait. The noise will upset it in a new environment. The smells and dust are bad also.

  10. yes the dust and noise will make it very uncomfortable and possibly kill it

yes, you should wait, because loud noises and the hustle and bustle of the work will scare the bird. Plus, the bird will get used to the kitchen once it’s done, so it doesn’t get too different for him.
