We stopped getting hot water in all our showers but not our faucets? Why?
All of a sudden all of our showers stopped producing hot water. It is not ice cold, but it is also not hot either. This is happening to all our showers. But we can get plenty of hot water from our faucets. The plumber who came out wants to replace the cartridges in the showers that regulate the hot and cold - but this doesn’t make sense that all of the cartridges in all of our showers would suddenly all go bad at the same time. So what else could be causing just our showers to no longer get hot water?
there two thing that i would do in your showers. 1 is pull the hand off to see if you have a justment for the hot water side some faults have them for summer and water temp. you move it in or out for hot water. then2 is the shut off valve for the hot water to see if it open or not and there nothing stoping the watergoing through it. start there and you will get it . if it was you tank you wouldn,t have hot water at the sink faucets.
Chances are they did not all go bad. The only thing I could think of is your water heater (if you are only using one) has its own filter that goes from the heater to the showers. That filter is the one that needs to be changed. Im not sure on how the set up is and how your water pipes run but I was in the plumbing business for 4 years before I moved on and I have seen many plumbers rip people off.

But as for your hot water problem, check all showers to see if all the heat is about the same temp, if they are then your plumber is wrong about replacing "all" cartridges.
Could be calcium deposits from the water heater clogging up the hot water side of the shower faucets, Have you tried taking them apart and cleaning them? Is your water heater electric? If so this could be the problem,most common problem with electric water heaters is the build up of heavy metals and calcium on the elements or hard water….test your water heater by opening the drain valve..if you see small white crystals..or if it’s clogged,could be the problem…good luck.
It might be cold or it;s plugged up.
I think Dick R is on to some thing. If the shower faucets are 15 years old or newer then they are most likely pressure balanced or scald proof.There should be an adjustment behind the handle to increase hot pressure or temp.You can measure temp at showers and at faucets with a thermometer.If the temp.s are different then I would say it is the cartridge or adjustment.
